Nice story about bored young men, a wager and young women not to be trifled with I really enjoyed this

Susan

Rufus Lovell accepts a wager from his true friends that the next lady to reach for the punch bowl he will marry before Michaelmas So now he needs to persuade a previously unknown lady Juliana Honeyfield to marry him What could possibly go wrong A sweet romance novella

Melissa

This was a short story that was a quick read It didn t feel very complete, the characters were not deeply created and it leads you not to care about them The story was a fun idea and I liked the whole idea of the story line I liked that the hero learned and changed and become a better person I had a really hard time with them kissing off the path in Hyde Park and someone clearing there throat to break them apart The heroine would have been ruined from what I know about the regency area if they h [...]

I had the opportunity to get this book for free, it sounded interesting, so I did.You know the movie Christmas in Boston I m not recommending it, but just using it as reference Anyway, it sounded funny so we watched it How could it not be funny when there is miscommunication in a romance Well, it was funny, but it was also full of not so great stuffIS was NOT like THAT A Michaelmas Wager is a quick little story about Rufus Lovell and Juliana Honeyfield Rufus gets tricked into a wager that he has [...]

Becky

I was given this as a free read and my first by Emilia Ferguson Received this book as an ARC and I am giving my private and honest review This is my first book to read by this author and I really enjoyed the story and characters For a novella, I found it put together quite well for a fast read I loved the whole story concept, but would have liked to have detail regarding the Michaelmas Day, some background on the characters What really happened to Rufus s brother, the relationship for the two [...]

Julia Bell

I downloaded this novel as I foolishly thought it was a Christmas story, but I did enjoy reading it It was a very short story and there didn t seem to be much time for in depth characterisation I thought this was a shame since I would have liked to have known the characters better Juliana was an excellent heroine and Rufus a very good hero, but their romance so brief that I felt rather cheated I think a bit editing would be good At one point it says, his hand still holding his Of course, I coul [...]

Zena

I love this author s style The theme was very clever and would either make you love or hate the hero, Rufus Juliana is the heroine She comes from a religious and modest background is isn t sure what to make of Rufus advances In fact, he sends her flowers every day until she agrees to meet with him and that is when the story takes off. This is a novella and there is a lot fitted into this short story Rufus friends seem to be drunks who spend their time wagering on the most crazy situations and he [...]

I enjoyed this story for several reasons I liked the hero and heroine, but also the lessons they learned Rufus Lovell, a very wealthy man of just a few months, with scandal attached to his family name, has four friends with a penchant for making wagers, no matter how big or small Rufus accepts a wager to marry a young woman he doesn t know by Michaelmas or lose the bet The lady turns out to be Juliana Honeyfield, a vicar s daughter As Rufus and Juliana get to know each other, they grow to love o [...]

Rounding up from 2.5.This is a novella so it is a quick read I could like the two main characters well enough and Juliana s cousin was okay but couldn t stand Rufus friends They were horrible people And I must have missed something because after the end of the story, it says if I want to meet several named characters again I should read on but the only one I recognized was Lady Audrey If the others were in this story I completely missed who they are I went back again to see if the names matched [...]

Sharon

Hero Rufus Heroine Julianaplot storyline 3.5 ok The wager not very realistic The idea that any man with an ounce of sense would think it was worth his pride and small sum of money to wed a random woman that would cost to court her than to pay the wager This plot was the most hard to swallow but once it got going it was a little fun.Ending 4.5 A Sweet HEA Love conquers idiocy I loved Rufus and Juliana and seeing how their relationship develops.Reading Enjoyment 4 I enjoyed ready this short story [...]

Danielle Carpenter

This is a delightful tale of where misplaced friendships can take you You might find the love of your life and lose it to stupidity The wager brings Rufus to meeting Juliana Rufus discovers that Juliana is what Rufus desires in a woman and regrets his wager Of course, Juliana finds out after she falls in love with Rufus I was delighted with Rufus from the moment we meet him, and knew that his friendship with these particular men were not his friends Juliana is your poor society girl and hangs on [...]

I enjoyed this story and will be looking for the related novellas Often novellas feel rushed and I didn t feel too much of that here, but we are teased with details about the Hero s background that are never explained Unfortunately, while much of the writing is good, there are some definite issues Some of the language and phrasing is far to modern There are also a few strange editing errors Sometimes a word or punctuation are missing Some sentences make no sense as if someone got distracted in t [...]

Lynda

A very light and disappointing read The characters were very shallow and needed depth to them, the conversations did not flow, there were quite a few glaring historical errors such as kissing in public and walking in unsafe places where no lady would go at night, and the author made a reference to a divorce scandal in the heroes past then nothing further was mentioned The story, one is a good idea but needs a lot of work done At the end of the book the author wrote of other books in her series t [...]

A Michaelmas WagerI received this book via my Kindle in exchange for a fair review.I thought this was a clean, light and easy read Rufus and his friends made a wager that Rufus will marry the next woman to get punch from the bowl, enter Juliana Vicar s daughter and cousin to Lady Aubrey, Juliana is not so easily persuaded to have Rufus call on her He sends roses daily in attempts to grab her attention which eventually pays off I do not believe this is a very accurate read regarding the Regency E [...]

Denise

I liked the way this book ended, but I had issues with the beginning and a few editing issues It seemed very odd that a man of trade with a criminal that died of Barrel Fever for a brother to be invited to the Duke of Daventry s May Day celebration I understand that he was so called friends with the Duke s second son and some other quite horrible peers, but I just don t believe that would have happened I know they needed to be in that type of situation for the premise of the story to happen, but [...]

Quinn Fforde

I was not very sure about the historical accuracy of some of this walking around the streets of Covent Garden at night , and there were some grammar and typo issues proprietary for propriety I could overlook those The thing that ruined it for me was this if Rufus has such an enlightened view of marriage, why did he make the wager in the first place I could buy it if the wager had been to get engaged, but I don t believe this as written.

Kim Paulus

Chivalry isn t deadThis story kept me reading until the end A historical setting where men were men with so many options and women limited to the morals of the day.A group of unruly men, a wager, and a young innocent woman make this story a wonderful read Rufus agrees to a blind wager that he later regrets, to woo and marry Juliana Honeyfield before Michaelmas This is a book in series but is can be read as a stand alone I will be reading the rest of the series soon

Toyenlon

It s an interesting novella a short and sweet romance novella Rufus had just inherited money and wealth as a result of his brother s death and gained a set of new friends who live recklessly and wager a lot They gave him a wager to marry anybody that dips her hand 1st into the punchbowl at a party before a particular date The person happened to be Juliana, a clergyman s daughter This led to many dramas and romance and finally ended with a happily ever after.

Mirella Kelly

What a lovely book I hadn t expected much from this short historian novella considering the fact that it was a free ARC and it has received average rating on GD, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much it made me laugh and smile at the turn of events in the book It has been a long time that I have been able to review a book in a proper manner and I m so glad that it has been this book Lovely book, looking forward to reading and listening to of Ms Murdoch s books Mirella

Corinne

A short and entertaining story Rufus does not have an inflated opinion of himself and is adjusting to his new position and wealth He begins his wooing of Juliane in a flamboyant manner, sending her flowers daily Julianna, daughter of a vicar, is a level headed young woman of limit means and is not opposed to Rufus suit He s making good progress but Nicholas, who made the wager, shows his true nature and does not fight fair. This was an enjoyable read for an evening.

Donna

Beware of FriendsI thought the story was interesting showing how people manipulate others and love was not always the reason for marriage I was happy to see the young man realize that friends are not always as they seem And yes Rufus should have realized that he was tricked The story was different from most and I liked it I would recommend this book if you want to check out a new author.

Tracey

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others This is my first Emily Murdoch story and I would definitely read another I liked the strong female character and the fact that the male character wasn t afraid to rethink his actions and make changes in his life that would include her Good job

Patricia

This was a clean romance that I really enjoyed In this timeframe often people married for uniting fortunes wives were supposed to be faithful husbands had mistresses I liked that they ended up marrying for love I cried when she thru herself into his arms The idle rich were very prominent in this book in this era which was depicted well.

Carol Bisig

Sweet This is a growing pain story Where a wealthy young man, learns the meaning of true friends The heroine is a Vicar s daughter There are some mistakes in the usage of names, if your father is a Viscount, you are not lady Audrey You would be an honorable Good, clean short story. Thanks, Enjoy

Caro Oli

At the beginning I thought that it was going to be just like any other romance story out there just to enjoy a break and then just leave it aside to pick another one the next time, but soon the story became deep offering refreshing thoughts that not only Rufus but every one nowadays should keep in mind about friendship and sacristy of marriage Despite short and fast paced, it s not hard to get involved into the story and bond with the characters, whom will dwell in my memory for quite a time.I [...]

Teri Donaldson

This is an adorable novella Rufus, with his new found wealth, finds himself engaged in a wager with a friend Julianna, a Vicar s daughter, lives a simple life I enjoyed the interaction between them and the secondary characters The story was sweet and very enjoyable I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Bonnie C.

Interesting account of love Although short , and leaves you wondering how the story ended I appreciate that the main characters were strong enough to deal with expectations and follow their hearts I was disappointed with the way that his friends treated both, cheating them on every opportunity.

Gina

A sweet romance a young man making a wager with his obnoxious friends to be married by Michaelmus, but he didn t count on falling in love and then having to make the girl believe that the wager doesn t matter.

Judy Miller

I enjoyed this book as i usually do all historical romance novels It was really a different kind of twist and i liked both the lead characters i would recommend for anyone who likes historical romance novels.

Lisa Valles

CleverThis book was just the thing to relax with after all the Christmas rush slowed down Nice clean storyline that was still interesting enough to keep me turning the pages Thanks go to Mrs Murdoch
