This second instalment in the Janus Group series actually turned out to be a slight improvement on the first one Like the first book it was an action sci fi with the focus on the plot rather than the individual characters Still, it is a very readable sci fi thriller mystery This picked up after the events of the first book and dealt with the aftermath of Rath s escape from his retirement party The Janus Group are now focusing on trying to locate two rogue agents Rath is looking for allies in his [...]

I was given a free advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. After completing Book 1 Rath s Deception I was excited to continue with this series It has elements from many of my favorite sci fi stories the tech is like Terminator, the environments are like Blade Runner, and the structure is like the Bourne Series There were even hints of I couldn t believe it Fallout, which, as those of you who follow me regularly know, is my current obsession.Once again, I thought I might end up [...]

On reading this book, it struck me how episodic TV the series is.This, the second book in the series, is about half the length of the first making it the first episode proper and the first book the double length pilot , it s less action packed you have already been grabbed by the pilot and episode 2 is cheaper to produce , contains a number of threads that aren t drawn to a conclusion while some are, to a degree and ends on a cliff hanger, the writer or producer, in the TV analogy hoping you com [...]

I clicked on an ad to download this book and the previous for free The two books came as a single download that I read straight through In my mind it is hard to separate it into two separate books so this is the same review I posted for Rath s DeceptionI don t completely understand the world of publishing versus self publishing this book is self published , but I didn t expect a book as good this was It kept me reading, and anticipating the entire time.I never felt like I was reading great liter [...]

Running for his life Rath tries to turn the tables on the Guild With the help of a victimised detective, a hacker and another assassin he tries to publicise the Guild s activities, little realising the high level at which the Guild operates and draws its influence.

Barry

Good read, great plot, especially for an ebook Too much jumping around and it s hard to keep track of time with all the jumping around I m also not sure where the author is going, he could have done a whole series just on the kills and there are plenty of other avenues he could have gone down He actually could have a sweeping space epic in the vein of The Expanse, but, like that series, he appears to have missed it.

Jennifer

This review was originally posted to Jen in Bookland4.5 stars Note I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review Also you should have read Rath s Deception already as this is a continuation of the same story.Rath s Gambit was such a fun read I am loving this series One of the things I love most about this book is it is Rath s story I love that he is not this perfect assassin even though he has had training He has a crazy memory, he can t forget anything, but doesn t always thin [...]

Piers Platt s Rath s Gambit the second book in his The Janus Group series starts out tolerably well perhaps a bit better than the first book , but at about the one third point it starts collapsing First, we get some additional main characters who are both simplistic and fairly extraneous Second, the plot basically turns into your standard middle book of a trilogy waiting game Third, the writing gets shallow And finally, there are a couple of huge gaffs in the science Exhibit A we ve got a galact [...]

Rebecca

Ok, its not often I give a book five stars But Piers Platt has done it Loved the first book and absolutely over the moon for the second one My heavens I finished this is a night could NOT put it down Mr Platt continues where Raths Deception leaves off with Rath killing the senator and getting away from the Groups Collection team Raths Gambit delves into Martin Beauceron and Paisen I found the title interesting Gambit In Chess, and opening in which a player makes a sacrifice, typically of a pawn [...]

So I ve never complained about book length before, but this one kind of got to me The first book, Rath s Deception clocked in at 11 hours, which is a little on the light side for a military sci fi or thriller sci fi, but well within normal range But this book was just six hours That s not a novel It s a novella, at best.So the quality was great, the story continued to engross, but it just felt like a single episode of a television show when a novel would be akin to a full length movie and not a [...]

GREGGCORDELL

Great readThis was another good read by Mr Platt I started this series with the short free sample of 50 kills and really enjoyed it Then he came out with the series about it and I keep preordering the next book I don t like to give too much away but it s about how a group of important people get rid of who they don t like to get control of just about everything and they recruit young kids at first and they have to make it to 50 kills or they don t get pained Their is a lot to it but if you read [...]

Erica Anderson

While I enjoyed the first book in this series, the lack of character development becomes too obvious to ignore in the second book Rath remains a flat protagonist, with no greater insight or introspection than in the first book Given his experiences, a reader would expect Rath to change or mature in some way, but this doesn t happen I won t be reading the third book Nevertheless, Platt has pretty good pacing and keeps the action coming, so I may give him another try in future.

Simon

As ,book 2 of a trilogy this book eaves the same unsatisfied sensation as did The Empire Strikes Back the first time I saw it races along at a rollicking clip and ends on another cliffhangerwell written and further develops the plot and characters but it is too damn short Unsatisfying short Book 3 doesn t release for another 5 days and I want it NOW I suppose that s a good an accolade for Rath s Gambit as any

Ian

I really like this series This book was slower to unfold then the first book but it had a lot of payback for sticking with it.More information is revealed about the Guild and you get a wider view of what Rath is up against He bumbles his way though it like in the first book, underestimated and always on the razors edge The supporting characters are really well defined which makes it that much easier to spend too much time reading when one should be doing other things.

Elizabeth Wood

Loved it The story is so gripping, I read this installment in 5 hours It s a great second book in the series, with plots and twists coming into play.Rath is searching for the one who explained to him the retirement plan for The Group He has to team up with someone that an assassin would be least likely to ever team up with.

Bonnie Hunsaker

Fast read and great storyAfter the first book in this series I was hooked The second is as good or better than the first Love the story and the characters A great read and get away book Will read the third book.

Milan

Great sequel to a great first novel in a series This one was a bit faster paced than its predecessor For awhile I thought Khyron was C4ble and he d ask Rhat to kill Dasi and Lizelle Wonder what will happen with her Looking forward to the third one.

Marshall Clowers

So Rath makes a discovery The question is now what The assassin needs some help and finds it after making an interesting deal You ll need to read Deception first or you ll be behind on the story A good fast read.

Srikanth Rathod

read it on kindlee book and interesting techwaiting for the another part

Rick Rider

I like this series, the action and situations seem non contrived I did avoid saying realistic The story and the characters develop well and don t seem too much of anything.

Lisa

Good ReadThis is the second book in the series It doesn t have quite as much action as the first, but the characters are developed I enjoyed it.

Amy3745

keeps you interested.

John Perkins

Disappointed in where this book went, and it felt like a filler story instead of anything necessary to the overall plot I m not really interested in continuing.

Shannon Weeden

This series still echo s themes from The Maze Runner in my mind A little science fiction, better technology, and advanced civilization, but a fun read.

Edric Unsane

Short, but just as great as the first in the series.

Stghaney

Good partThis is defiantly a transition worth reading to have a continuous understanding I recommend the Janus series for a fun light read.

Lukas Lovas

I enjoyed the first book a bit , though this one is still pretty good.
