As an adoptive mom, I was SO disappointed in this book I love The Family Book and It s Okay to be Different and others by Todd Parr, so when I saw that Todd Parr had written a book on adoption, I rushed right down to my bookstore But, meh, I didn t like the message of this book at all It is all about the child needing something, and the adoptive parent s providing it You needed a home and I had one to share, You needed someone to say I love you and we had love to give For our family, and those t [...]

I didn t like how he made it seem as if the adopted child was the one who was saved Not true

Laura

I brought this home from the library to read to my son and promptly hid it from him so he wouldn t hear what this book has to say you needed a lot of things, and we were able to provide them to you That is not the message we want to portray to our child He should not be instructed to feel lucky we all are.

Amy Rogers

I gave this book to my daughter, on her Adoption Day This is a wonderful book for a child who is adopted from the Foster Care system The stick figure children all look to be different ages There is no talk about picking up a baby, or taking a plane to get the child, like there is in so many adoption themed childrens books.

Aneesa

Tear jerker This book reminded me about how we wanted to have Ev because we had so much extra love But then we had her and just produced MORE LOVE Kind of like pumping breastmilk in the middle of the night.

We Belong Together is a light hearted, sad picture book explaining the dynamics of adoption and the becoming of a new family This book would be a great way to introduce the idea of adoption to children, especially in a family that has a biological child, and is accepting a non biological one in to their family Some of the descriptions in the book, however, are a bit controversial Todd Parr seems to be describing an adoptive child as one who needs to be rescued and is unloved Many would say that [...]

I am an adoptive parent who usually enjoys Todd Parr s books, but I was SO disappointed in this one it reads as though adoptive children are damaged goods who were rescued by fost adopt families Ouch Not the message I want my children or any fostered or adopted children to internalize I will never read this book to my kids, and I feel sad knowing that other fost adopt families will share it with theirs.Imagine how different this book s message could have been with some re framing We belong toget [...]

This is a very kid friendly book that explains to children what adoption is The text in this children s book is very simple The illustrations are simple, but each page is filled with bright colors The illustrations are like stick figures, but I think it is a good idea to have a simple book like this because the children who are very young and have recently been adopted, this is a great book to ease in the idea of what adoption is and how the process is taken The language of this book is very sh [...]

I love Todd Parr books but this one really missed the mark for me It didn t sit right We do not belong together BECAUSE you needed a home and I had one to share Yes, you might ve needed a home and I might ve had one to share, but we belong together because I love you and want you in my life As other reviewers have said, this book seems to suggest that children are unloved and have nothing until they were adopted saved It doesn t properly convey that everyone involved benefits.

Philicia Wheatley

A book written in a kid friendly way to help children understand how families come together and how people can pick and choose the families that they have sometimes The story goes a lot deeper by helping you to understand that family is than who you are, but how you act and love each other.

Amanda

The only thing that would have made this book better is if it portrayed a single parent adoption.

Megan

Another colorful, inclusive book from Todd Parr, this time dealing with adoption and alternative kinds of families Simple, but lively illustrations promote an understanding of different family structures and celebrating differences.

We Belong Together written by Todd Parr is a beautifully written book about families It starts off with We belong together because you needed a home and I had one to share Each different section has a sentence starting with We belong together because and ends with something that the family can give to the child Such as, We belong together because you wanted to learn and we had lots to teach you The ending says We belong together because you needed someone to say I love you and we had love to giv [...]

Reviewed by Me for Kids TeensReadTooAlthough WE BELONG TOGETHER is geared towards adoptive parents and their children, any family can benefit from reading the book, especially if done so together Although I ve read some negative reviews about the book, statements made that it gives the wrong message to adopted children, I don t think that s the case at all Both of my children have, at one time or another, asked why they were our kids and not someone elses How is it that we became their parents, [...]

We Belong Together, A Book About Adoption and Families, is a multicultural picture book written and illustrated by Todd Parr The book is about two parents who provide a home, along with sharing the holidays, to an infant that learns and grows in their adoptive home The parents have so much love, learning, and sharing to give and they found that adopting a child they could do it My initial reaction was that this was sad, because the adoptive child does not have their biological parents and that i [...]

We Belong Together A Book About Adoption and Families is amazing Before the story even starts there is a note to parents that the book is meant for everyone and that parents should feel than welcome to change any of the very few pronouns in the book to their preference Both the story and illustrations are wonderful The characters are all different colors from yellow, brown, purple, and blue so that race is irrelevant The story is a heartwarming one about all the reasons the child was adopted an [...]

This book is all about how children can explore the many ways that families can choose to come together Todd Parr has truly captured what it means for a family to belong together in such a kid friendly and sensitive way WOW I was really captured by the bright colors and all of the double page spreads I enjoyed how Todd included an author s note stating that readers can change the pronouns in the text to fit their family situation Todd includes motifs of sketched figures as well as the text Point [...]

This book is simple but impactful It says it is for adoption families but it can really apply to both adoption and foster care because it is about giving a loving home and family to a child who needs it The book actually opens with, We belong together because you needed a home And I had one to share Some foster families are that loving safe home family even if they don t adopt the child This book has simple drawings and people of all colors It is defiantly a feel good kind of book for children w [...]

Kacie Blakley

Todd Parr captures the great ways we can bless children through adoption This book is certainly kid friendly as the illustrations are not too detailed and appear to be drawn by a child The story line is also simple and can be applied to any adoptive family I just really wish Parr would have discussed how adopting a child affects the family as a whole The adopted child can definitely help any member of his family in several ways, but that point is not addressed in this picture book I still think [...]

We Belong Together is a children s picture book about love, family and adoption It is a very simple, sweet book and the message is absolutely wonderful The author s note on the first page even has a mention of changing pronouns as it relates to your own family I highly recommend this book for young children who are just beginning to read It is heart warming and inclusive It is an example of multicultural literature in its use of neutral colors to represent characters and diverse in its topic of [...]

After finish reading We Belong Together I almost cried It is because this book shows the truth about being wanted and that you re never alone There will always be someone who care and love you and I think every child needs to know that Also this books shows the diverse of the different families Now just the meaning of the book was great but also the art as well It was simple but yet the characters are not the same color but rather different colors showing the differences in the family I would re [...]

McKenna Crimmins

This book was about families adopting and why they were adopting It was extremely heart warming and it made me think about my aunt and her foster children This book would be a great book to read to children who are either adopted or even in the foster care system who are in the care of a loving family The pictures were very original and simple and looked like a child could have actually drew them which I really liked because finally there is a book with pictures that look like mine and if a publ [...]

Dedicated to all the children in the world that need a home and family, adults are encouraged to read the book with someone you love and are told to change the pronouns so that the book best fits their family The book is illustrated like all of Todd Parr s creations with simple cartoons in solid colors and shows all types of adopted families including ones with two moms and two dads The parents and children are of all types of color combinations The book shows adopted families doing various acti [...]

This story is geared towards adopting and families Todd parr does a great job with this story, as he show how all children need a family and a home As a teacher, I would have this story in my classroom library I want each of my students to be able to explore the library and choose a story that interest them and relates to them I would read this story to my students to show that everybody needs a family I would explain the different types of families and allow students to speak on any related sce [...]

I really like this book It teaches many things about families and what families have to give, but this is especially a great book because it talks about adoption This book is great for all students because some come from homes with moms and dads, others come from homes with just one parent, or foster parents This teaches that adoption is a great thing and some students might be adopted and that is great It teaches that a home is full of love and laughter Great book to share the differences of wh [...]

A delightful book to assure very young adopted children that they belong with their forever family with sentences like You needed someone to hug you, and we had hugs to give Parents and children are delightfully diverse, of a variety of different colors brown, purple, blue, yellow and so on, in Todd Parr style , hairstyles, ages and genders.I nabbed this one just in case it goes out of print by the time we have a child old enough to read it to though I hope this book will be around for a long ti [...]

My five year old son picked this book out from our local library this week I liked that this was a book about adoption My son is not adopted, but all of his fur siblings have been We were able to alter the text slightly to make it fit our family, and I really liked that Whatever your family situation, this is a very positive, happy book The illustrations are typical Todd Parr illustrations, which means that my son loves them, and I do not Actual rating Text, five stars illustrations, three stars [...]
