Very enjoyable book about Logan not really Wolverine A good mix of berserker rage and all too human sadness Well done.
Greg Rucka has written a really strong Wolverine story arc here This trade has 19 issues, and is a pretty good buy for the money Wolverine is like Spider Man a great character who deserves a story arc as iconic and important as Batman Year One or an All Star Superman but who instead just gets year after year of the same old crap This isn t his Year One but it is a great story, and one of the best looks at his struggle with the animal aspects of himself that I ve seen The sabertooth Native b stor [...]
2.5 StarsI think this is only my 3rd time reading anything by Rucka and I m still not impressed This volume contains about 3 story arcs, 6 issues apiece Each arc has it s own story and the first two are connected. There are no real super villains and no costumes Logan basically stumbles across trouble and his sense of honor gets him involved in crimes dealing with human traffickers and arms dealers While the stories do a decent job of portraying Logan s sense of honor the rest seems to be a chanc [...]
I ve read all the Wolverine Ultimate Collections at least I think I have and this one by far has the best stories I don t think the artwork was the same illustrator throughout the entire series, but I wasn t real crazy about some of it It s not that is was bad, it was excellent really, it s just not how I care to see super heroes portrayed Wolverine actually looks so much like a unclean bump, that you can almost smell him And I get that these stories, like the original Wolverine series in Madrip [...]
The Art in this book is very good, the stories engaging, and I feel I actually got to know Wolverine a little better Which is surprising for me as I have read a lot of Wolverine comics, so I loved this extra insight into him outside of the X Men s world I also enjoyed the addition of new characters, including Native A very good read, and one you can easily pick up and re read at any time even when you ve just read it I find I can open the book anywhere, and start reading it again, I am instantly [...]
It my first comic book, also about one of my favourite character I enjoy reading it all the way
Where do I begin Is this a book worth reading Are you a Wolverine fan Do you enjoy literature Do you enjoy stories of love, life, loss tragedy It s all here.Rucka wrote and created this book and took it to a whole new level in this collection I read the Brotherhood and enjoyed the use of language I was desperate to read it all I read it all.I ll never forget a page. The book questions, for me, the struggle within Logan Does he think of himself of a man or a beast The reader knows the answer.Howe [...]
I like what Rucka is trying to do here playing on the emotional weight of Wolverine, constantly struggling with his humanity animality But this volume contains three stories, and only the first one is really very entertaining It isn t particularly helped by mediocre art, but even the stories just don t really keep my attention I found myself sort of slogging through it all.
Excellent story, amazing art, love the way he is portrayed Logan comes through well and shows his inner humanity I m totally hooked on this character.
3.5 stars Not the best of Wolverine but not bad at all Overall I enjoy Rucka s writing, but this didn t overwhelm me.
Rucka s Wolverine started off strong, as a take on the character, but he failed to sustain that strength. The Brotherhood 1 5 Rucka does Wolverine If you re expecting a superhero tale of X Wolverine, you re going to be disappointed I was when I first read this volume But if instead you expect to see Wolverine in one of Rucka s classic modern day noirs well, that s what you get It s actually a rather nice juxtaposition because Claremont often used Wolverine in off kilter genre stories, and this go [...]
Greg Rucka does with Wolverine what Garth Ennis did with the Punisher in his Marvel MAX run He turns a clich into a human being again The plots may seem similar to the typical Wolverine stories of the 90s but Rucka s writing makes you care for the characters involved ,placing this volume among the best Wolverine stories that I ve read His conversation with Nightcrawler alone is worth the cover price Highly recommended. If you enjoyed this you might enjoy The Punisher MAX, Vol 1 In the Beginningan [...]
Logan wanders into a small injustice, murders the fuck out of the wrongdoers ponders the morality of his actions until a woman from his forgotten backstory wanders in to make things even angsty good fun.
I like Wolverine comics especially when there is a competent author and I really enjoy these Ultimate Collections from Marvel So Greg Rucka is a very competent author and this Ultimate Collection covers issues 1 19 of volume 3 of Wolverine The art is provided mostly by Darick Robertson with a five issue fill in by Leandro Fernandez, so we clearly have some beautiful art to pair up with Greg Rucka s story Lots of Weapon X content Not a huge Sabertooth fan, but he shows up for a good amount in the [...]
After presenting the fans with some of the stupidest story arcs of all time, Marvel decided to relaunch the Wolverine series in 2003 with Greg Rucka writing the first 19 issues Even though the series is most known for Mark Millar s hard to match Enemy of the State and Old man Logan , it was Rucka s run that started off the popularity of the series Over his 19 issues, Rucka weaved an old school action tale, unburdended by any of the other X Men series, or for that matter any other Marvel series H [...]
So good, I loved it The writing is top notch and I love the story line Wolverine is a very common character in the Marvel universe, constantly making appearances sometimes one may want to see him in a different light, add a bit to the character we all know and love This comic collection delivers this unique look into the life of Wolverine I was searching for Even the art work portrays him as being a bit different than your average Wolverine Overall, highly recommended, both in art and in story [...]
This was, and is, one of the Best Wolverine story arcs.I love how gritty and dark it was, exactly like the characters of the story Further, they manage to vividly portray the Evil in both Mutants and Humans alike, along with some good too it was like a huge struggle of Ying and Yang. The reiterations of Wolverine trying, and failing miserably, to find inner peace never gets boring, as you constantly get to keep seeing flashbacks However, they re not the happy kind of memories.A Definite Must read [...]
A really well told collection of stories from Greg Rucka, who is one of my favorites from his work on Gotham Central, but whom I ve never really explored before Based on this volume, I ll have to read of his stuff Particularly notable in this arc are two issues that focus on a single conversation at a bar and a dream sequence no action, no super heroics, just character and dialogue Better art could have made this a five star story.
Rucka has a great talent for building strong characters with very strong supporting casts The first issue of this book shows that well, as it s told entirely from the perspective of a waitress working in Logan s currently most frequented diner, as well as living across the hall from him I haven t read a lot of Wolverine solo stuff, but this is definitely the best of it that I ve read.
This was a passable set of Wolverine stories that don t really relate to any of the teams he is involved with though with all of those, I m not sure how he has time to wander around the world quite so much Overall, they are rather street level, and interesting, if not mind blowing The finale sets up some things that seem like they would be interesting, though.
This is a great collection to read The stories are very strong and it really touches on the heart Logan has You see a strong arc based on Logan s inner struggle to be a man and leave the animal at the door Great read The conversation and banter Logan has with Nightcrawler is worth the price tag
this is my kind of wolverine
Individual issues on marvel unlimited
Rucka is a great writer and this is nice, simple, down to earth storytelling A good fit for Woverine, who doesn t need over the top situations or violence to be an interesting character.
Very enjoyable, though I wish it had felt like an ending, and I wonder how that particular ending is even possible given the parameters of the powers involved.
